This thesis explores the work of photographer Laura Gilpin as a documentation of Native Americans in the American Southwest. Specifically, it considers the stylistic shifts that occurred over the course of her career as they relate to the larger history of Native American representation. This project raises the question of whether or not these stylistic shifts actually change how the photographs romanticize the Native communities they portray.
