Begin Again: The Forced Change of Cultural Practices for Educators in Rural Placements

Abstract

This alternative dissertation disrupts academic standards by integrating spoken word in order to express urgency in pivotal discussions surrounding culturally relevant teaching, discrepancies in disciplinary practices for students of color, and the adjustment of mindsets for educators in rural communities. It serves as a beginning in disrupting dominant narratives and practices that have surrounded traditional education and been historically exclusionary to marginalized populations.
